It’s rare to see a band so casually cross the channel sonically, but French pop-punks Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! have certainly managed it with their new single ‘Playing Dead’. Give it a listen and you’ll be swearing that they have come straight from the sunny climates of the USA, like their recent tourmates Yellowcard and Less Than Jake, not the rainy Parisian streets..
With Warped Tour additions being announced on a daily basis, we’re definitely heading towards a heady summer of pop-punk. What better way to prepare, then with the likes of transatlantic upstarts As It Is, with their old-school Taking Back Sunday-esque new single ‘Dial Tones‘.
It’s officially the end of summer, so let’s give it a good send off today with a tasty slice of pop-punk from the masters, better known as New Found Glory. ‘Selfless‘ is taken from the band’s upcoming album ‘Resurrection‘, due out on October 7th.
Shove that festival gear away til next year and get listening..
Seems like steam-punk aficionados Fearless Vampire Killers have taken a step back from the growling and turned to old-school pop-punk, the likes of early My Chemical Romance for their new single, ‘Neon In The Dance Halls‘. With a video featuring cameos from fellow eyeliner lovers Ashestoangels and daddy of the new goth-punk movement, William Control, this is definitely the sound of a young band taking their first steps towards stadium level. Good luck to them!
Well its a Saturday night and I’m sure you’re off out somewhere exciting, (if not, good on you for being so healthy / broke..). Whatever you’re up to, here’s a bit of happy-go-lucky punk-rock in the shape of Chicago’s own Lawrence Arms. For added credit, try playing ‘spot the reference’ in their latest video, ‘Seventeener’:
You’ll have to excuse the lack of posting, I’ve actually been on holiday in Mexico for the past week! (Really good, but now pretty sunburnt..)
Anyway, what better way to embrace the cold British weather then with a nice summery breakup song. Agreed? Great, here’s Aussie pop-punks Tonight Alive with their new video ‘Come Home’.
I feel a bit weird about picking this one, seeing as I’ve never experienced what I can only imagine is a truly traumatising experience of watching your parents separate. The heartfelt sentiment behind the song is evident though, its what makes it such a wrenching piece and isn’t that what a good piece of music is all about?
Blink 182 released ‘Stay Together For The Kids’ back in 2001 and based on the constant stream of comments, its stayed in people’s minds since then. What’s lovely is that the band have managed to take their own advice and despite a couple of ‘solo’ projects (Angels&Airwaves and +44), the band are still together and are on tour in the US this September.
I WISH I’d heard this song during my teen years. It pretty much sums up my socially awkward attempts at friendships / relationships. (I’m much better now, I promise..)
Man Overboard are a pretty heavy dose of pop-punk, hailing from the depths of Williamstown, New Jersey. The band’s third full-length album, ‘Heart Attack’, featuring the new single ‘White Lies’ is out May 28th on Rise Records.
You know summer’s just around the corner when the driving songs start coming out. It makes me quite sad that I no longer have a car to drive (can’t afford it / don’t need one in London). If I did have a car though, this song would be top of my list to blare out the windows on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
I just caught the end of Tonight Alive at the Kerrang Tour in Brixton a few weeks ago. The Australian pop-punk 5 piece have been making waves with their energetic live shows, and habit of running around backstage completely naked (or so I’ve heard).
This lovely slice of rock-lite goodness features Benji Madden, of Good Charlotte fame. I don’t actually know what he’s up to these days, but its good to see him with a girl that’s not Paris Hilton.. As a disclaimer: I’m not suggesting that he’s dating lead singer Jenna McDougall. I have no idea about his personal life.
Honestly, I was quite stuck for something to write about today. I checked all the usual spots, music magazine sites, rock blogs, even trawling through Facebook for any video posts that I might’ve missed. Still nothing worth writing about.
Feeling a bit stuck, I decided to try Vevo. I don’t use it enough really. A quick flick through the rock section produced this awesome tune from Anavae. It’s a catchy one, a kicking pop punk sound with an electronic twist (if that makes sense?).
These London alt-rockers have already been featured in Kerrang, Rock Sound and AbsolutePunk.net. You can catch them on tour in the UK with I Divide this April, or at Islington Academy on February 21st. Dates on their Facebook here.
‘Storm Chaser’ is the first label release from the band and is out now!
