Sunday Comment: Movie Soundtracks

Well seeing as its a Sunday and supposedly a day of rest (which is a complete lie.. I had tons to do today!) I thought I’d settle in and watch a film. After getting into a discussion about Bjork with some friends yesterday, I picked Suckerpunch, on the grounds that the soundtrack had been the only time that said friend had actually enjoyed her music. (Personally, I’m a huge fan).

Anyway, the film and soundtrack discussion made me think – how many films are memorable simply for their soundtracks? How many films are greatly enhanced by their soundtracks?

Here’s five of my favourite film soundtracks (ignore how ‘uncool’ some of them might be):

* Suckerpunch – Bjork ‘Army of Me’

Great song, inspirational message, great placement within the film.

* The Matrix – Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and Deftones

Probably one that’s more for the industrial fans. At least the first film is good too? I’m not sure about the other two..

* Benny and Joon – The Proclaimers ‘500 Miles’

Because I’m the least ‘cool’ person you’ll ever meet.

* Resident Evil – Basically the whole soundtrack

I was never a huge fan of the films, as zombies basically terrify me, but I’ll admit the soundtracks were immense..

* The Crow – The Cure, Nine Inch Nails and Violent Femmes?

Enough said.

Anyone have other favourites? Let me know!

Help A Band Out?

So bit of tragic news for you all, Exter’s Napoleon were in a car /van crash in the Czech Republic this week. As a result, they’ve had to cancel their European tour, though luckily none of them were seriously hurt!

If you’re feeling generous, you could check out their merch site: napoleon.bigcartel.com/ and maybe get yourself a new sweater? There’s nothing like treating yourself and feeling good about it at the same time..

Need to know what they sound like before you wear their gear? (Gosh, what a novel idea..) Have a listen below:

Cheers loves,

Download Weekend

Oops, it’s been a while hasn’t it? I have an excuse though.. I’ve been at Download Festival all weekend!
Aside from the weather (and having to catch a 7am coach home), it was amazing!
Best bands I saw by far were the awesome Rammstein, with a great use of props.. Plus the lovely Jimmy Eat World and it was great to see HIM back on top form.
There were too many other great sets to name them all (but Iron Maiden were obviously another highlight).
Anyways, blogging will return to normal as of tomorrow..
Lots of love..

New Music, New Music! Enter Shikari ‘Radiate’

So I’ve posted a lot about Enter Shikari. I know. Having spent the last 4:37 minutes dancing about my room like nobodies watching (I HOPE no-one’s watching), I think this is worth including though.

One of the best things about Shikari, apart from the great beats, is that they genuinely care. There’s a deep, heartfelt message within every track. Anyone who’s seen the band live can tell how passionate they are about their music, and how passionate their fans are in return.

Oh, and did I mention that they’ll be playing Download this weekend? Excited much? I couldn’t be more..

From The Vault: Incubus ‘Drive’

Ok,so its not a Friday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go back in time a little and listen to a tune from not-so-long ago.

Californian rockers Incubus have released quite a few heavy-hitting tracks in their time, but ‘Drive’ is a more ballady number. Its one of those songs you want when you’re feeling a little blue and in need of a pick me up. Also, if you’re interested, their (rather attractive) lead singer Brandon Boyd gets his shirt off in the video. Which is never a bad thing.

Enjoy!

letlive release new music video ‘Banshee’

If you haven’t heard of letlive, I don’t really know what you’ve been doing with your life.. (no offence!) They’re one of the hottest tipped acts in rock at the moment. This music video should explain why. They’ve got energy and passion by the bucket load, plus some great songs. Think System of a Down meets Slipknot, but a bit more dancey. Yeah, I just said that.

Check out their trippy new video here:

letlive’s new album ‘The Blackest Beautiful’ is out on July 9.
