Well we’re over hump day (that’s what they call Wednesday now, right?). I think its time for a bit of comedy to get us through the last stretch of the working week.
For those of you who work weekends, I apologise. In any case, watching Southampton prog-rockers Circle Of Reason challenge OAPs to a war of table tennis should definitely ease the pain..

Its hard to think of rap-rock without immediately picturing Linkin Park (its not just me, right?). If that is the case, Ohio duo Twenty One Pilots will certainly prove you wrong.
Blending catchy electro-beats, insightful lyrics and a handful of piano-led melodies, these two cleverly avoid any obvious categorisation. The group, made up of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have just released their third album, ‘Vessel’, which embraces a darker side to their sound, mixing in heavier drum and bass beats with sharp edged vocals. Its not all angst though, there’s more than a few upbeat tunes, ending with the beautifully soft ‘Truce’.

Augustines are from Brooklyn, but sonically they’re more of an upbeat Gaslight Anthem. Well, a little bit more upbeat anyway. ‘Nothing to lose but your head’ is their new single, from their self-titled album which is due out on February 4.

Rising from the ashes of former hard-rock heavyweights Panic Cell, melodic heavy metallers Seven Deadly (which includes former members of the aforementioned band) have already received accolades from the likes of Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and Classic Rock magazine.
The five piece clearly aren’t afraid of a few screams, as ‘Blood on your hands’, the first single from their debut album ‘Obliviation’ proves. There’s a ferocious energy behind the track that, with any luck, should translate into a must-have album for all you metal-heads out there.
These guys clearly have a love for the classic rock catalogue, but they’re bringing a fresh feel to the genre, mixing growling vocals and power chords with eerie melodies for a sound that rises far above the standard metalcore output.
‘Obliviation’ is out on February 23rd.
Well, from A Day To Remember to a year to remember (its a joke, right?), 2013 is coming to an end and its time to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. That said, I think we can get away with a quick look back on the year that’s past, before we get started on the new one.
For me, the most significant thing about the last year has been the number of bands running Pledgemusic campaigns for their album releases. From Bring Me The Horizon‘s critically acclaimed ‘Sempiternal’ to indie stars Hard-Fi and a whole hoarde of newer artists, it seems like the livelihood of musicians will be based around ‘extra’ items – VIP passes, merchandise and even live streaming rather than the traditional model of create and album, sell album, profit that has gone on for so long..
Anyway, let’s end on a cheerful note, shall we? One album I’m definitely looking forward to next year is You Me At Six‘s ‘Cavalier Youth’, which is out on January 27th. If you haven’t had a listen already, here’s a little snippet for you:

Is it December already? I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet. Actually, that’s a lie. I headed over to Oxford Circus yesterday, but couldn’t face the masses of crowds.. Might be another online shopping year. Oh dear..

So I’ve been a bit of a bad little rocker, haven’t I? I can’t believe I missed this epic single from Deftones when it first came out! ‘Romantic Dreams’ might not be the anthem that ‘Back To School’ is, but its still a classic in the making. Plus there’s a great accompanying video, featuring some impressive late-night skating.

Its still November, so don’t scream at me if you’re not prepared for the Christmas tunes yet! This isn’t your typical festive cheer type song anyway. ‘I Had A Heart’ from Chicago emo-kids (yep, emo is still going..) Real Friends is a stab against the usual sentimental sweetness that you’ll be hearing on the radio for the next month and a half.. It’s part of the Punk Goes Christmas compilation, which is out now.
