Introducing: Twenty One Pilots

Its hard to think of rap-rock without immediately picturing Linkin Park (its not just me, right?). If that is the case, Ohio duo Twenty One Pilots will certainly prove you wrong.

Blending catchy electro-beats, insightful lyrics and a handful of piano-led melodies, these two cleverly avoid any obvious categorisation. The group, made up of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have just released their  third album, ‘Vessel’, which embraces a darker side to their sound, mixing in heavier drum and bass beats with sharp edged vocals. Its not all angst though, there’s more than a few upbeat tunes, ending with the beautifully soft ‘Truce’.

The Lawrence Arms – Seventeener

Well its a Saturday night and I’m sure you’re off out somewhere exciting, (if not, good on you for being so healthy / broke..). Whatever you’re up to, here’s a bit of happy-go-lucky punk-rock in the shape of Chicago’s own Lawrence Arms. For added credit, try playing ‘spot the reference’ in their latest video, ‘Seventeener’:

Augustines – Nothing To Lose But Your Head

We’re past the middle of the week, so let’s celebrate with a bit of country rock’n’roll, shall we?
Augustines are from Brooklyn, but sonically they’re more of an upbeat Gaslight Anthem. Well, a little bit more upbeat anyway. ‘Nothing to lose but your head’ is their new single, from their self-titled album which is due out on February 4.

Why not take a breather and have a listen to this..?

A Day To Remember – Right Back At It Again

Well I’ve been a busy, busy person this week with too many gigs / Christmas parties! Luckily, though, I haven’t been so busy that I’ve missed the awesome new video from A Day To Remember, ‘Right Back At It Again’. Its fun, upbeat and incredibly catchy. I suggest you check it out, right now..

Sneaky peak from Of Mice And Men’s new album

If you can’t wait for the new album from California hard-rockers Of Mice And Men, ‘Restoring Force’, you can hear a sneaky preview of their new single ‘You’re Not Alone’ right here (if you don’t mind watching a whole lot of ads about the album, that is).

Go on, its totally worth it..

The new album, ‘Restoring Force’ is out January 28, 2014.

New Video From Ashestoangels ‘Chase’

So is it a live video, or isn’t it? I guess some bands are better at expressing themselves when they’re performing, rather than acting in a storyline video. It definitely works for Bristol’s Ashestoangels in their new video for ‘Chases’, directed by the amazingly talented Marianne Harris.

Indie Sunday? Yes, I think so..

Is it December already? I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet. Actually, that’s a lie. I headed over to Oxford Circus yesterday, but couldn’t face the masses of crowds.. Might be another online shopping year. Oh dear..

Anyway, for those of you who are having a nice, chilled out weekend, or like me, need one, here’s a lovely bit of electro-rock tuneage for you. ‘Call Me Up’ is the new single from Manchester rockers Love For Zero. Its due out in March 2014, but  if you can’t wait that long, have a listen to it below..

Is it too early for Christmas songs yet?

Its still November, so don’t scream at me if you’re not prepared for the Christmas tunes yet! This isn’t your typical festive cheer type song anyway. ‘I Had A Heart’ from Chicago emo-kids (yep, emo is still going..) Real Friends is a stab against the usual sentimental sweetness that you’ll be hearing on the radio for the next month and a half.. It’s part of the Punk Goes Christmas compilation, which is out now.

Happy not-quite-Holidays!

Hawk Eyes New Video ‘Cheap’

So its Thursday. We’re over the hump day. Let’s celebrate with a bit of Hawk Eyes, shall we? It’s a little bit screamy, so be warned if that’s not your taste.

I actually saw this band in London a few weeks ago by chance, when a friend had some spare tickets. Needless to say, they did not warn me how screamy it would be. I was not prepared. Lesson learned – in the future, look up the band BEFORE you go see them live. I know now..

Anyway, enjoy!

Sleeping With Sirens – Congratulations

Well its a Thursday, so I think we all need a bit of comedy to get us through this not-quite-Friday-day. Luckily for us, Sleeping With Sirens have that nailed for us with their new video for ‘Congratulations’.

Like bobble heads? Like scary looking grannies? You’ll love this..
