Introducing: Hagana

‘Haganah’, according to a quick Google search, refers to a Jewish para-military organisation which began in the early 1900s. I’m not entirely sure of the relevance of this to the band of nearly-the-same name, but in musical terms, Hagana refers to a grungy three-piece from Edinburgh who make tunes that sound like a less experimental, early Biffy Clyro (and no, I’m not geographically stereotyping).

The band are taking their first steps to rock stardom, or just simply, more national awareness, with the release of their debut album ‘One Year‘, out on March 3. In the meantime, they’ve picked up some great feedback from regional press and the general rock blogosphere as well as releasing this nifty little video for ‘Fuzzy Punch‘, which features on their upcoming record.

Sneaky peak from Of Mice And Men’s new album

If you can’t wait for the new album from California hard-rockers Of Mice And Men, ‘Restoring Force’, you can hear a sneaky preview of their new single ‘You’re Not Alone’ right here (if you don’t mind watching a whole lot of ads about the album, that is).

Go on, its totally worth it..

The new album, ‘Restoring Force’ is out January 28, 2014.

Is it too early for Christmas songs yet?

Its still November, so don’t scream at me if you’re not prepared for the Christmas tunes yet! This isn’t your typical festive cheer type song anyway. ‘I Had A Heart’ from Chicago emo-kids (yep, emo is still going..) Real Friends is a stab against the usual sentimental sweetness that you’ll be hearing on the radio for the next month and a half.. It’s part of the Punk Goes Christmas compilation, which is out now.

Happy not-quite-Holidays!

New Music Monday: Empress – ‘Blurred Perception’

I was recommended to listen to prog four piece Empress based on my love of Hell Is For Heroes (favourite band, in case you’re asking..). The band’s new single ‘Blurred Perception’, which is out now, is a little heavier that the London alt-rockers, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good (just expect a little more screaming!).

New Music Monday – AFI ‘I Hope You Suffer’

So while I was having a lovely long birthday weekend (it was great, thanks for asking..) it seems I missed out on something pretty important! After a couple of months of ring-esque teaser videos, the amazing AFI have finally released a stream of their new single ‘I Hope You Suffer’.

As always with AFI, its never going to be ‘Sing The Sorrow’ all over again. (Which was, in my opinion, a pretty perfect album from the band). However, it sound like the band are steering back towards their heavier sound which always carried more passion and impact than the slightly more celebrity-focused releases of late..

Have a listen!

New Music Monday: Champs ‘My Spirit Is Broken’

Ooops, its another late one today! My excuse this time is that I’ve been busy celebrating my birthday! (I won’t tell you how old I am now, its too depressing..)

Anyway, here’s a lovely little indie number to sweep you off to bed. Who doesn’t want to watch beautiful men diving into swimming pools for no apparent reason? No-one, that’s who.

Here’s Champs ‘My Spirit Is Broken’. (Think a more pleasant version of Editors).

New Music Monday: Nine Inch Nails (Epilepsy Warning..)

Well its not unlike Nine Inch Nails to come up with a catchy, electronicy tune with a creepy video, but this one is definitely worth watching (unless you have epilepsy, in which case, please don’t).  Featuring a simple vocal hook and a jittering, unnerving series of image transitions, ‘Came Back Haunted’ is going to be stuck in your head for days.

The only thing that slightly ruins it is the confused looking image of Trent Reznor you get to see if you watch this on the actual YouTube page..

New Music Monday: Stone Sour – Do Me A Favour

Yes, so I’m a little slow at getting on this one. Maybe as I haven’t heard it yet, you haven’t either though? The amazing Stone Sour, featuring Corey Taylor from Slipknot have released a creepy, animated video for ‘Do Me A Favor’, taken from their new album ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 2’, which is out now!

The video is something of a cross between Sin City and Fearless Vampire Killers (the band, not the film..), plus a few zombies / explosions thrown in for good measure.

Enjoy!

New Music Monday: Fort Hope – Time Is The Rope

I saw Fort Hope at Camden Underworld last Wednesday supporting Fearless Vampire Killers and was pretty blown away by how amazing they are. These guys are pretty straight up melodic post-hardcore (melodic is my favourite word of the moment) and they’re just great really.

They’ve got a new single ‘Control’, which is out soon and have just started a new UK tour with We Are The In Crowd.

‘Time Is The Rope’ shows off a bit more of their ’emotional’ side, with a brief nod to The Early November and is one of the tracks that they performed beautifully at the Underworld. Its pretty brave doing a slow number when you’re the support act, but they pulled it off really well.
