Introducing: Hagana

‘Haganah’, according to a quick Google search, refers to a Jewish para-military organisation which began in the early 1900s. I’m not entirely sure of the relevance of this to the band of nearly-the-same name, but in musical terms, Hagana refers to a grungy three-piece from Edinburgh who make tunes that sound like a less experimental, early Biffy Clyro (and no, I’m not geographically stereotyping).

The band are taking their first steps to rock stardom, or just simply, more national awareness, with the release of their debut album ‘One Year‘, out on March 3. In the meantime, they’ve picked up some great feedback from regional press and the general rock blogosphere as well as releasing this nifty little video for ‘Fuzzy Punch‘, which features on their upcoming record.

The Used – Cry

Well whatever you might say about The Used, or in particular, their lead singer Bert McCraken, they’ve never held back on the energy front. The band’s new single ‘Cry’ definitely shows this, its got the sing-a-long chorus, the screams and the catchy riffs that we’ve all come to expect from the LA rockers.

‘Cry’ is the first single from the band’s sixth album, ‘Imaginary Enemy’, due out on April 1st. (Side note: one of the pre-order packages contains The Used branded condoms. Er, why?).

Architects – Naysayer

Well it seems this week has been a big one for rocking new tunes! Brighton’s metalcore heroes Architects have released the music video for their new single ‘Naysayer’, a ferocious hard-rock piece from their new album ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’, which is due out on March 10.

The Calling – For You

So here’s my pick for today, its an actually an old(ish) track – ‘For You’ by The Calling. Taken from the Daredevil soundtrack (great songs, not such a great film..) it was one of my favourites back in the day.
What’s inspired this week’s pick is the saddening news that the band’s vocalist, Alex Band was assaulted and held at gunpoint on Sunday. Even though I’ve never met the guy, having spent my teen-years loving the band, I still feel some kind of connection to him.
Anyway, my thoughts are with him and his family..

Metallica Release Trailer For ‘Through the Never’

So you’re probably getting a bit sick of band documentaries now right? Endless shots of them on the road, staring thoughtfully out of windows, talking about how much they love the fans etc etc etc..? Well, lucky for you it doesn’t look like this Metallica film will be heading down that route.

Admittedly, it looks a little cheesy, but also EPIC. I don’t care what you think, I’m going to see ‘Through The Never’:

Help A Band Out?

So bit of tragic news for you all, Exter’s Napoleon were in a car /van crash in the Czech Republic this week. As a result, they’ve had to cancel their European tour, though luckily none of them were seriously hurt!

If you’re feeling generous, you could check out their merch site: napoleon.bigcartel.com/ and maybe get yourself a new sweater? There’s nothing like treating yourself and feeling good about it at the same time..

Need to know what they sound like before you wear their gear? (Gosh, what a novel idea..) Have a listen below:

Cheers loves,

Chester Bennington + Stone Temple Pilots – ‘Dead and Bloated’

Yes, you did hear me right. It seems Mr Chester Bennington, of Linkin Park fame has teamed up with Stone Temple Pilots. He’s even surprisingly good at the epic classic rock vocals. I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise given that he’s used to screaming away in his regular band outfit, but that’s an impressively deep set of lungs he’s got on him.

Looks like this could be the new lineup for the band, given that they fired vocalist Scott Weiland earlier this year..

Check out Chester’s performance below:

Deftones New Video ‘Swerve City’

Right, so its New Music errr Friday today! I’m sure you’re looking for something upbeat to get you through those last few minutes / hours (hopefully not..) at work!

Here’s some great stuff that should put you in a better mood either way. The Deftones, arguably one of the greatest bands around (or so I’ve been told by many people around me..) have just released a new video for ‘Swerve City’.

Its Friday. Its the Deftones. There’s a horse. Be happy?

New Music Video From HIM – ‘Tears On Tape’

I’m not sure what to make of the new single from Finnish ‘love metallers’ HIM. ‘Tears On Tape’ isn’t a bad song at all. It follows the fairly standard love / misery theme that makes all HIM‘s songs so relatable. It maybe lacks a certain spark, which makes other ballads from the band (such as Sacrament) more listen-worthy.

Still, its worth a go anyway, and especially with frontman Ville Valo having to cancel the band’s tour due to a severe asthma condition, I’m inclined to give them a break.. Wishing Ville all the best in his recovery ❤

New Video From Malefice ‘V’

I think its about time I posted some new music on here! It’s been very news-centric lately. To be honest, I almost went with some news today, which I’m just going to chuck in now instead. California rockers AFI are back! Check their website (afireinside.net) for more details.

Anyway, on to the music.. Reading metallers Malefice (who I’ve seen more than a few times in my local venues!) have just released a new video for ‘V’, from their new album ‘Five’, out on April 28. The video showcases the bands powerful live shows and, whilst storming through the fist-clenching track. Expect good things from these guys..
