New Music Monday: Champs ‘My Spirit Is Broken’

Ooops, its another late one today! My excuse this time is that I’ve been busy celebrating my birthday! (I won’t tell you how old I am now, its too depressing..)

Anyway, here’s a lovely little indie number to sweep you off to bed. Who doesn’t want to watch beautiful men diving into swimming pools for no apparent reason? No-one, that’s who.

Here’s Champs ‘My Spirit Is Broken’. (Think a more pleasant version of Editors).

Stream The New Album From Fall Out Boy ‘Save Rock And Roll’

Stuck for something to listen to? Here’s a quick tip – stream the new album from Fall Out Boy, the eagerly awaited ‘Save Rock And Roll’.
Despite loving all the songs, I hadn’t remembered to buy it. Plus with an album with such strong singles, you have to wonder how the rest of the record shapes up. Luckily, this one does pretty fine, thank you.
Have a listen!

New Music: Badluck – Golden Coast

Hands up who needs a little more sunshine in their lives? No-one? Well this might at least get you through the massive overheating (unless you have air-con, in which case, I’m jealous, but you’re probably doing irreparable damage to the environment).

Glasgow’s Calum Doris (previously of Flood of Red), has just released his new track ‘Golden Coast’ on Soundcloud, under the guise of Badluck all for your aural enjoyment. It’s lovely and summery and a little bit like Yellowcard. Which isn’t a bad thing.

Have fun listening to this while you can’t sleep..

August Burns Red New Video ‘Count It All As Lost’

Now you probably know that I love a good lyric video, and the ones being released just seem to get better and better. Honestly, sometimes its hard to tell what’s a promo video and what’s a lyric one now! This new video from hardcore rockers August Burns Red for ‘Count It All As Lost’ might fall into the latter column, but the amazing graphics would be passable for a Korn video..

Check it out below:

New Music Monday: Nine Inch Nails (Epilepsy Warning..)

Well its not unlike Nine Inch Nails to come up with a catchy, electronicy tune with a creepy video, but this one is definitely worth watching (unless you have epilepsy, in which case, please don’t).  Featuring a simple vocal hook and a jittering, unnerving series of image transitions, ‘Came Back Haunted’ is going to be stuck in your head for days.

The only thing that slightly ruins it is the confused looking image of Trent Reznor you get to see if you watch this on the actual YouTube page..

New Music – Ashestoangels ‘Dorian’

Ever wanted to go to a Victorian-esque bar, gamble a little and then rough up the place? Well now you can live vicariously through the antics of Bristol goth-punks Ashestoangels. The dashing guys even dress up for the part. You really don’t want to miss this..

FYI, these guys are on tour next month too, check the dates here..

Sunday Comment: Movie Soundtracks

Well seeing as its a Sunday and supposedly a day of rest (which is a complete lie.. I had tons to do today!) I thought I’d settle in and watch a film. After getting into a discussion about Bjork with some friends yesterday, I picked Suckerpunch, on the grounds that the soundtrack had been the only time that said friend had actually enjoyed her music. (Personally, I’m a huge fan).

Anyway, the film and soundtrack discussion made me think – how many films are memorable simply for their soundtracks? How many films are greatly enhanced by their soundtracks?

Here’s five of my favourite film soundtracks (ignore how ‘uncool’ some of them might be):

* Suckerpunch – Bjork ‘Army of Me’

Great song, inspirational message, great placement within the film.

* The Matrix – Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and Deftones

Probably one that’s more for the industrial fans. At least the first film is good too? I’m not sure about the other two..

* Benny and Joon – The Proclaimers ‘500 Miles’

Because I’m the least ‘cool’ person you’ll ever meet.

* Resident Evil – Basically the whole soundtrack

I was never a huge fan of the films, as zombies basically terrify me, but I’ll admit the soundtracks were immense..

* The Crow – The Cure, Nine Inch Nails and Violent Femmes?

Enough said.

Anyone have other favourites? Let me know!
